Mathematics is taught across the school following the National Numeracy Programmes of study. The subject is monitored by maths coordinators to ensure that all pupils work at their own standard. They are all set termly targets through their 'Individual Education Programme'. Pupils are entered for the recognised SAT's tests if they have reached the required level - this is determined through continual teacher assessment. The pupils in the high school follow the syllabus for the Entry Level OCR Mathematics scheme and from year 9 are entered for the levels as they reach the required standard: those in the extension groups will follow the main GCSE syllabus. We provide many opportunities for practical work throughout the school: this becomes more evident in Years 10 and 11 where practice is given through the Asdan accredited Life Skills programme to include shopping, timetables and cooking.

Measuring
In this activity for the year 7 class, we created a play about a football match and used it to practise our coin recognition skills.

Shapes
This challenge started from studying repeating patterns in 2D shapes. We extended this to looking at 2D and 3D shapes with repeating colours to build structures from multilink cubes and peg board patterns.
Those studying for GCSE then took the idea for their set coursework from investigating numbers of squares in rectangles to building up 3D shapes in sequence.
