The aim of the Humanities programme at Beacon Hill is to widen our students' horizons and broaden their understanding of the world around them. Lessons are centred on active learning and provide pupils with the opportunity to become History and Geography detectives. In History, pupils compare and contrast life today with life in the past and also consider the rate of change and continuity throughout the ages. Topics include the Romans, the Tudors and the Victorians. In Geography, pupils study the natural world and assess the impact of humans on the environment. Topics include a study of Old and New Felixstowe and comparing and contrasting Britain with France and Italy.
Humanities lessons are supplemented with a range of local visits such as Christchurch Mansion, Kentwell Hall and Chantry Park, which aim to inspire pupils' understanding and enthusiasm for the past and the natural world.
