Design & Technology curriculum

At Beacon Hill our pupils study the Design Technology national curriculum. This is divided into two subjects Food Technology and Resistant Materials (working mainly in plastics and wood). All pupils study both subjects.

We have two Design Technology rooms a newly refurbished food room and a materials workshop.

Aims

• To encourage pupils to solve problems using design, make, test, evaluate methods of working.
• To encourage pupils to use a range of graphic techniques to communicate and present their ideas.
• To encourage pupils to use a range of materials and equipment.
• To encourage pupils to use a range of hand and machine tools suitable to the particular design tasks, and which are appropriate to for the needs of each individual pupil.
• To encourage pupils to use Information Technology to help them with the research, design and evaluation of their design products.

In years 3-6 our pupils study units from the key stage 2 syllabus for Design Technology.

In years 7, 8 and 9 our pupils study units from the key stage 3 syllabus for Design Technology.

In Year 10 and 11 study our pupils OCR Entry Food Technology and Resistant Materials.
